McDonald's Serves Up Interactive Digital Signage
In one McDonald's restaurant they have incorporated content managed digital signs. If this pilot is successful this solution could be deployed throughout the McDonald's throughout America.
The management at the pilot restaurant wanted to offer their customers a Las Vegas feel and realised that their current way of displaying their menu could not compete.
The digital signage solution.
This incorporated eight 15 inch LCD displays set end to end on a ceiling overhang above the checkouts that greet the customers. Then in the dining areas 42 inch displays have been deployed these show action sports mixed with McDonalds ads. This is easily achievable by splitting the screen with the video playing in the largest section, on the left of the display a scrolling text invite customers to text short codes from cell phones to change the video.
In the children's play area a large touch screen display is used that shows cartoons and promotional videos, children can use the touch screen LCD to select the cartoons they want to watch. The display is fitted with a camera that is useful for birthday parties as the cartoons are stopped and the birthday boy or girl can see themselves on the large screen.
The communications hub is the tiny office, looking more like a server room with several of the servers being required for the CPU of the digital signage system.
Outside two large 6 feet x 12 feet digital signs hang below the golden arches, hung back to back these displays play the content that is played in store.
Interactive digital signage at McDonald's is in it's infancy when it is proven it will be rolled out throughout the group.

Creating a Cartoon of Yourself
One of the really neat things that new technology allows us to do is to have fun. And one of the things that is extremely fun and easy to do is to create a cartoon of yourself.
The other day I was on Facebook and I received a message from a good friend of mine. The meaning of the message was trivial but I was fascinated by the picture that sat along side the message.
It was a picture of my friend Jeremy but as a cartoon.
Knowing Jeremy, who is not too technically adept, I figured this might not be too difficult to do. After all, I already found a way to put your face on a dancing body so this could not be that hard to do either.
I immediately began searching about how to create cartoon pictures of yourself. It turns out that there are many sites that allow you to make cartoon pictures of yourself. Obviously, though, some are better than others.
There are a few things that you need before you can create cartoon pictures of yourself.
The first thing that you need to make these photos is a good photo of yourself. The way that these sites work is that you upload a photo and then the site can work its magic tricks to turn your photo into a cartoon.
However, not just any photo will do. To create a truly great animated picture of yourself, you will need a good picture of just you without anybody else in the photo. Ideally, this picture will be very clear and up-close. If it is not, the photo may blur too much.
For example, if you want to create a Facebook cartoon photo, you will want an up-close face picture similar to that which you would find on a passport photo. This is not difficult to achieve. In fact, with today's best digital cameras, it can be accomplished in a snap.
To accomplish this feat, you will also require a computer and Internet connection.
The computer does not have to be super powerful. If you have the ability to view and modify photos already, this computer will be powerful enough to use on these websites.
Finally, you will want an Internet connection that is suitable. Though a dial-up service might suffice, I would suggest some sort of broadband connection. That way, you're photos can be uploaded without waiting forever.
Once you have all of these things in place, you are ready to create great cartoon photos of yourself.
For more on this topic, visit the page entitled Create Your Own Cartoon Character and you will learn how to make your own cartoon character in a matter of minutes. The author, Richard Tyler, is a technologist, writer, and generally curious bloke!

Name One Black African Cartoon Series
'Transformers', 'Voltron', 'Super Ted', 'Fun Factory', 'Thundercats', 'Battle of the Planets', the list goes on.Most of us adults who grew up in Africa remember watching those programs when we were children. Those programs helped teach us everything from arithmetic and English, right through to we could defeat a very powerful decepticon robot in case the need arose. In fact, programs such as Sesame Street taught us general life skills.
Now fast forward a few years. You now have your own young family and you want to watch cartoons with your young children. The current crop of cartoons such as Dora the Explorer and Peppa Pig are great. But what if you want to watch a cartoon or animation that reflects some part of your black and African heritage? How about one that's available in major African languages so children can learn their mother tongue? Can you name one truly international children's program that was conceived and produced in Africa? It's difficult right?
This leads us to the next question. Why? There are many reasons for this.
These include;
Lack of financial support from the public and private sectors: Banks for example, see animation as a risky venture. In fact in countries like Nigeria banks have traditionally steered clear from supporting the entertainment sector with financial products. They are now talking with the creative sector to see how they can collaborate in the future. Also institutions like the World Bank have pledged funds to help industries such as Nigeria's Nollywood so things are looking up. As animation is a sub sector of this, there should be a trickledown effect in the future.
Lack of support and belief from local broadcasters: Many television networks don't commission such programs. In fact they prefer to import foreign children cartoons. To some degree this situation is understandable.
Lack of artists and technicians in fields such as animation production.
Lack of support from government: In some countries such as France, companies that produce animations are given encouragement in the form of incentives and funding. Unfortunately this isn't the case in the majority of African countries.
So it is easy to see why there are no cartoon series from Africa that have had global success. However, African animators have decided to tackle this challenge head on. In regions as diverse as Kenya, Nigeria, Egypt, South Africa and in Diaspora things are changing. Using the internet and new digital production technologies, African artists and companies are producing their own content for the world to see. The future for African animation is very bright.
Adamu Waziri is a lover of all things animation. As is common with most animators, he was drawing comics and cartoons from a young age. An architect originally, he further trained and worked as a 3D animator in London. He proceeded to set up EVCL http://www.evcl.tv/, a creative studio in Abuja Nigeria. EVCL is now producing a new children's series called Bino and Fino http://binoandfino.wordpress.com/.

I'm Addicted to Superhero Comics, Movies, and Cartoons
X-men, Superman, Spiderman and his amazing friends, The Hulk, Justice League, Dragon ball Z, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Thundercats, Bravestarr, Thundarr the Barbarian, Ironman, Fantastic 4, and so on and so on. I'm 33 and I'm addicted to superhero cartoons and movies.
I mean every since the invention of the DVR (digital video recorder), I can't get enough of all the crime fighting stuff. Am I alone, and does anybody else like an overload of Spidey or X-men? Maybe I'm jealous, and it's the fact that kids today are spoiled silly, and as a kid I was unable to watch toons quite as much. I remember watching a little bit of cartoons before school, a hour or so after, maybe.
To be honest Saturday morning was the main time of the week to get your fill of cartoons. But in this day and age of 1,000,000 cable channels, there are several that just show cartoons. Which means that at any given time, a kid can just turn it on and watch away. I use to call my son in the room, just so I could say, " I was watching superhero shows with him". Now I just don't care anymore, and I DVR everything. Justice League Unlimited is my favorite right now and it's like the soaps for dudes or something.
I never knew watching Superman and Batman could be so drama filled, and everybody has a girlfriend. But enough about me and what I love, what is the message that superheroes convey. I think that heroes appeal to the good inside of everyone. We all would like to think that if we somehow gained unlimited power, that it would be used for the good of all mankind. I mean dedicating your entire existence to helping others, that's what a hero truly is. Which brings me to my favorite part of the comics, the Super Villain.
It's amazing how most of the villains were all good at one point, and there is always a specific chain of events to turn them evil. Is that the truth about most of mankind, and does everybody have just a little bit of evil hidden deep inside of them? Most villains are extremely rational, too rational and blinded by there desires. In desperate situations they can often be reasoned with for the good of everybody involved. But some evil knows no boundaries, an chaotic evil characters are the best example of this. Some beings just don't care about money, wealth, or assets. There only purpose and deepest desire is the watch everything and everybody burn.
When I was younger and read about Superman's battles with Darkseid, superman asked him, "what is was that he was after". He replied, "the Anti-Life Equation", and I'm like 8 years old but I fully understood what he sought! Total and complete devastation, and nothing less would be acceptable for him. Superman then replied," I will never stop fighting and I will always be here to stop you. The world NEEDS heroes like that! It could be said the firefighters and red cross volunteers are real life heroes.
Courage in face of danger and hopelessness, that's my definition of a hero and I love them for that. I think I just enjoy watching the struggle between good and evil. It never seems to bore me, and I just can't get enough of it. I'm always open to a discussion with anybody regarding, superpowers, best heroes, villains or anything else DC or Marvel related.

Multiple Streams of Income With Your Cartoon Characters
Record labels do not make their money solely on album sales. Albums are primarily marketing mediums to make the artiste known to the world and propel him/her to fame. Once famous, multiple avenues of income become available - such as product endorsements, advertisements, concerts, movie deals, etc.
If you are in the business of character licensing, you should consider looking upon the management of your stable of digital characters just like the management of real-life artistes as described above in the case of the record labels.
Character Licensing
Licensing your characters is a good way to generate extra income out of your characters. If your game is about to or has already hit the shelves, you should consider getting a licensing agent to manage the rights of your characters. Good licensing agents are often well-connected and able to look for suitable partners who may be willing to license your characters for their merchandise. Such licensing deals can result in anything from plush or clothes to books or even credit cards!
The publication Total Licensing is a good resource for learning more about the latest trends in licensing and merchandising and also looking for licensing agents.
Producing and Selling Your Own Merchandise
Previously the concept of producing and selling your own merchandise can be daunting due to the prohibitive costs of production and distribution. Now it is entirely possible to do this at an almost negligible cost. Websites like Café Press and Zazzle provide the opportunity for you to upload your own designs, match them with a range of products, set your own prices and sell it off their website for just a few dollars per month! You don't even have to worry about production and logistics because Café Press does it all for you!
I have also compiled a short list of great industry resources you should check out if you are interested in this area.
The Licensing Business Handbook is a comprehensive introduction to licensing for property owners, product manufacturers and agents. It is jam-packed full of information on how to get started and what to look out for in the complex business of licensing.
Total Licensing Limited is an independent publishing company dedicated to the licensing, merchandising and intellectual property market. It is the only publishing house to cover this massive industry on a truly worldwide basis. You can find a huge listing of potential licensees and licensors in the Total Licensing publications.
LIMA is the grand-daddy association for companies and individuals engaged in the business of licensing - both as agents and as property owners. There is a wealth of resources and help available here and you should always refer back here.

Digital Image Editing
Bring back your photos to life
Clicking photos is fun
Photography is fun. However, clicking pictures is just half the fun of photography. The remaining half of the fun lies in the digital darkroom-putting those great finished photos that you are very eager to show off to everybody who wants to take look at it. "All right, all right" you would say, "but I'm just an amateur, and I do no know much about editing digital images or photos."
What can you do with digital image editing?
Although digital photo editing is almost similar like conventional "wet" darkroom picture processing, one doesn't need to have prior 'traditional darkroom' experience to do everything from small corrections to big miracles with digital pictures. And in most cases, you can save and use the photos you would have otherwise torn and thrown away.
How digital image editing saves your photos and images?
Please note that I said "most" not "all" cases. Although with some pictures you would be able to pull off minor miracles. However, there will be some images that no amount of regular computer editing will be able to correct. Regular image-editing software is good, but, alas, far from bull's-eye. For example, if the detail is blown out of highlight areas, no amount of editing will put detail back into shape. One can use different tools to correct in details, but the process is complex, tedious, and the results obtained are often not close to natural.
Digital image editing services
That's when professional image editing service come in to picture to help you out with your editing and corrections. There are a number of good companies around you who provide digital image editing and correction services. These digital image editing and correction services provide a complete suite of design related services that include Photoshop clipping path, softmasking, photo retouching, image updating, picture manipulation, color corrections, raster to vector, vector to raster, comic or cartoon coloring, image coloring, illustration, etc.
With professional help you can bring back your images to life.

Cartoon Animation Software
Cartoons are not merely a media for entertainment but the result of one's effort and passion to create laughter from real life characters. Because of the stylish similarities between comic strips and early animated movies, cartoons came to refer as animation. Animation designates any style of illustrated images seen in rapid succession to give the impression of movement. If anyone is trying to create their own cartoon based on real life characters, they need a good software. There is some fine software programs to help to do a lot of things but the most important feature is that it "does it let u learn as u work". Best software programs actually help to learn the design that one can have a lot of motivation since working on real life animations. The first thing to understand when working with this software is file size and compressions are the priority concerns. Swift 3D offers a tremendous array of tools to help the designers. Swift 3D offers two types of tools: Bitmap rendering which minimize the size of output and the second one is Erain which makes 3D to shine. Actually Swift 3D is an addition to Flash.

The Animator's Workbook: Step-By-Step Techniques of Drawn Animation

From Library Journal
Like so many of the crafts, animation has suffered from the introduction of new technology. In this case computer-generated images have done much to displace the art of animation. It is White's intention to provide a foundation for apprenticeship training in order to preserve the animator's craft. His book is primarily a multilevel workbook. The only assumption is that the reader will be a cartoonist with an interest in animation. White lets the reader in on all pertinent aspects of animation from inbetweening to matching dialogue with the drawn pictures. At the end of each chapter there is an assignment for the practitioner. A valuable reference tool for most libraries and essential for art libraries. Mike Donovan, Cornell Univ.

The Animator's Survival Kit
Animation is one of the hottest areas of filmmaking today--and the master animator who bridges the old generation and the new is Richard Williams. During his more than forty years in the business, Williams has been one of the true innovators, winning three Academy Awards and serving as the link between Disney's golden age of animation by hand and the new computer animation exemplified by Toy Story.
Perhaps even more important, though, has been his dedication in passing along his knowledge to a new generation of animators so that they in turn could push the medium in new directions. In this book, based on his sold-out master classes in the United States and across Europe, Williams provides the underlying principles of animation that every animator--from beginner to expert, classic animator to computer animation whiz --needs. Urging his readers to "invent but be believable," he illustrates his points with hundreds of drawings, distilling the secrets of the masters into a working system in order to create a book that will become the standard work on all forms of animation for professionals, students, and fans.

Five tips for creating an animated Flash cartoon
With Adobe Flash is the creation of cartoons as accessible as ever and ever. With time and a little know-how, you can directly in the and animating a cartoon from your very own start jumping. However, there is a difference between a cartoon and a good cartoon. (Listed in no particular order), these five tips will help you with planning and animating cartoons.
Write a script. The cartoon like it unnecessarily, for the idea may be right in the head, but to write a script, the film can you significantly improve the flow. Also short films benefit from scripts. You don't need to go and buy expensive screenplay writing software. A simple text editor do, as long as you can write the stage directions and dialogue. If no script, then at least write an outline. This is also useful if you need to add or change something later. It's much easier to write everything down and then to remember your ideas.
Get a graphics tablet. Drawing with a mouse is hard and not too many people find comfortable to do it. So go ahead and buy on a tablet, which is basically a digital pad and pen, you can draw. You can draw on the screen, so how would a pen and paper, and this can significantly improve how that sees their cartoon. And in the long run to fight this faster curiosities of the mouse. Find stores on Amazon or in the computer lots of Tablet (different sizes, price, etc.). To search, read reviews and find for you.
Check out other cartoons. If you present a caricature of, never made works observe other peoples is a good way, River and style to obtain a handle. Well, not watch a cartoon and steal the ideas or plot from it, but rather to see how the Director used zooms cuts, camera, camera and so on. Note also how the Director lines (if any), color, special effects, character design, and other artistic properties used. Find out what you like and what is not, and then restart it to customize and make your own style.
Search input. You want to be your cartoon own, but it never to harm to questions, for the input. To do this, you can find an online community and your work there or just to show your cartoon book to your friends. While people who know tend to be (and hold back their thoughts to spare your feelings), it can help you have an idea of which direction to take your cartoon. Now, let's not you discourage entry. There are many people out there who will bash just for fun. Ignore these hateful comments and focus on the constructive are.
Practice! I'll be honest, your first cartoon more than likely not your biggest work will be. Like everything else this process results in time and a lot of practice. Research of damage never either. The Internet is a great resource full of articles, examples and video tutorials for you from learning. Once your first cartoon in the can, continue! Start, writing scripts for your next, practice your drawing skills, continue to seek input from other cartoons and further push!
